As the age of colour photography dawned in the early 20th century, in order to promote cross cultural understanding and to record disappearing cultures, French idealist, philanthropist & banker, Albert Kahn, sent a group of intrepid photographers to over 50 countries to create a colour library of and for, the peoples of the world.

This book selects from the huge collection of 72,000 autochromes, containing some of the earliest colour photos from Vietnam to Brasil, Mongolia to Norway, Benin to the United States.
